| Beautiful fishes, we are not accustomed to seeing these species ! Especially the Lepisosteus platostomus, his teeth on the photo number 2 are impressive ! It look like a crocodile. Have you caught them where you live ?

Yes, he was caught in a farmers field when the Missouri River flooded last year.
_________________ Pardon my French Dan Murrow Kansas Vernal Pool Society North American Branchiopod Forum |

| Impressive photographies, I particularily like the ones you made of triops and fairyshrimps . Which camera do you use?

I dont remember which camera for each picture, but they are 1 of 3 cameras. A 1.6mp Sony Mavica FD90, a 7mp Casio Exilim exz-750, and a Koday Easyshare 8mp V803 with no manual focus so this is the one for the blurry pics. _________________ Pardon my French Dan Murrow Kansas Vernal Pool Society North American Branchiopod Forum |

| | Thank you very much for your very nice pictures. When you have so beautiful native fishes, it is a good idea to take some and put it in a home tank. Here we just have some of your native fishes (considered really as pests because they destroy a lot native fauna) named lepomis gibbosus. We call it sun perch or rainbow perch. We also have gambusia affinis (mosquito fish) and unfortunately what we call Florida turtles (certainly trachemys scripta) and 3 kinds of very invasive and dangerous crayfish. |

| We also have Mosquitofish- Gambusia affinis non-native, Pumpkinseed - Lepomis gibbosus-native, and Red-Eared Sliders - Trachemys scripta- native. We only have 1 nuisance non-native crayfish in Kansas - Rusty Crayfish- Orconectes rusticus. Our biggest nuisance problem is from Silver Carp- Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, and Zebra mussels- Dreissena polymorpha.
We do have some other non-native species that are not nuisance species because they are only found inside cities and are not a threat to native species. Italian Wall Lizard- Podarcis sicula, Western Green Lacerta- Lacerta bilineata and Mediterranean Gecko- Hemidactylus turcicus. _________________ Pardon my French Dan Murrow Kansas Vernal Pool Society North American Branchiopod Forum |

I heared about the problem of asian carps, black, silver or bighead, but I thought the problem was more on bighead carp (aristichthys nobilis) than silver carp. We don't have same problem in West Europe but it can come in the future from East Europa (Hungary for example) where I heared about black carp wild breeding. Zebra mussel is also beginning to be a problem in Europe and it will be worse in the future. I know that it is a dangerous competitor for US native mussels.
